Glen Ellyn Explores Train Station, Pedestrian Underpass Options

Glen Ellyn officials are exploring options for a expanded train station and pedestrian underpass.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn officials want to move forward with their train tunnel and pedestrian underpass project, which has been years in the making. Tuesday's village meeting marked the first time the whole village board workshopped the project and weighed alternatives, costs, and funding.

According to a news release from the village, the board plans to move forward with looking into grant options for the pedestrian underpass. The aim of the project is to help improve traffic near the station by helping pedestrians and cyclists avoid getting around cars.

In the past, the village has considered a bridge as an alternative to the pedestrian tunnel. Officials are working with CDM Smith on initial structural designs and plan to continue working on the proposal in the coming months.
