Glen Ellyn Planning Commission OKs Civic Center Parking Garage
The four-story parking garage plans will move to the village council on Jan. 13.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The Glen Ellyn Zoning and Planning Commission has voted to move ahead with plans to build a four-story parking garage at Glen Ellyn Civic Center. The commission voted 5 to 1 Thursday to recommend the project for approval by the village board.
The project includes building a 4-story parking garage at 535 Duane St. The project will eliminate the current parking lot and add 287 parking spots. With the elimination of the current parking lot, this nets 212 new parking spots total.
The Civic Center Parking garage includes a planned demolition of 423 N. Main St., which is often called the Shonkwiler building and a residence behind it. The demolition will create a new open space that will be used to link Main Street to the proposed parking garage.
