Glen Ellyn Poised To Opt Out Of Recreational Cannabis Sales

The village will vote Nov. 12 on an ordinance to prohibit cannabis sales.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The village of Glen Ellyn is poised to opt out of recreational marijuana sales — for the time being. On Monday, village officials directed staff to prepare a moratorium ordinance that would prohibit recreational cannabis dispensaries in Glen Ellyn.

Recreational cannabis will be legal for adult purchase and consumption effective Jan. 1, 2020. Glen Ellyn plans to revisit the issue again in 2020 after it has had time to see how those municipalities who choose to opt in will be affected by cannabis sales.

The decision comes after Glen Ellyn gathered public feedback online and at recent planning meetings. The ordinance will come up for a final vote on Nov. 12.
