Glen Ellyn Sees Steep Increase in Violent Crime: FBI Report

The FBI recently released its annual ”Crime in the United States” report, which includes information about Glen Ellyn.

According to the report, Glen Ellyn saw 23 violent crimes in 2014 while in 2013, the village received only eight reports of violent crimes. Violent crime includes offenses involving force or the threat of force: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, according to the FBI.

Of the violent crimes reported in 2014, there were four rapes, eight robberies and 11 aggravated assaults. Other crime stats for Glen Ellyn include 340 property crimes, 41 burglaries and 287 reports of larceny/theft.

Nationally, violent crime decreased last year by 0.2 percent from 2013, according to the report.
