DuPage County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an injured person at a home at 2N150 Mildred Avenue on Tuesday night to find 49-year-old John Murray with injuries to his head, face and leg. Murray was initially taken to Glen Oaks Hospital before being transferred to Hinsdale Hospital, where he died of his injuries at around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Detectives brought several people who live at the home or were there during the incident to the sheriff's office for questioning and learned that Murray, who lived nearby, had been visiting acquaintances there, police said.

One of those acquaintances was 19-year-old James Aydelotte. Police said Aydelotte struck Murray in the face several times, then stomped on his head while he was lying on the floor. Aydelotte is also accused of slicing Murray's leg open with a large knife, police said.
DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin said the attack allegedly came after a verbal altercation between Murray and Aydelotte.
Sheriff John Zaruba called the crime "reprehensible," saying of Aydelotte, "The suspect in this case took the life of a friend in a brutal and heinous manner and then took various steps to cover up his behavior."
Aydelotte is charged with one count of first degree murder and is being held on $4 million bail, police said. He is due in court Jan. 31.
