Three Glen Ellyn men are facing charges for an alleged crime spree involving armed robbery and home invasion spanning several DuPage County communities.

Assorted aggravated robbery, armed robbery and home invasion charges were filed against Justus Brantley, 18, of the 500 block of Alder Lane; Johnny Holmes III, 23, of the 300 block of Duane; and Quincy Skanes, 21, also of Glen Ellyn.

All three appeared in bond court last week where prosecutors alleged that between Dec. 31, 2014 and Jan. 26, 2015, the men engaged in several robberies and one home invasion in Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Wheaton.

The Glen Ellyn men’s luck apparently ran out on Jan. 26, after they were arrested following an alleged armed robbery in Carol Stream. Holmes is accused of arming himself with a handgun and walking into a 7-Eleven store, where he demanded cash from the store clerk.

Prosecutors said that Holmes left the store with the money and fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Skanes, who was waiting outside the store.

Glen Ellyn police observed a man, later identified as Holmes, walking along a street, but Holmes allegedly ran away when officers tried to stop and talk to him. He was apprehended a short time later.

Investigators from the Carol Stream, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Lombard police departments were able to gather information to warrant more charges against the men, including a New Year’s Day Carol Stream home invasion.

A woman woke up to two unknown men in her apartment around 5:30 a.m. Jan. 1. One of the men choked her, while the other stole items from her apartment, including her debit card, prosecutors said in bond court. Brantly and Skanes have both been charged with home invasion.

The two are believed to have then moved on to another apartment where they heisted a TV set.

Skanes faces one count each for aggravated robbery, home invasion and armed robbery.

Holmes has been charged with four counts of armed robbery and Brantley faces one count each of aggravated robbery and home invasion.

“I am extremely proud of the cooperation exhibited by all the agencies involved in this case,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. “It is because of the fine police work that we will be able to bring very strong cases against each of these three men.”

Bail was set at $500,000 for Holmes, and $750,000 for Brantley and Skanes. All three are due back in court on March 2.
