Submitted by the village of Glen Ellyn

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company was awarded a grant by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This grant exceeded $50,000 and will fund the installation of a Vehicle Exhaust Filter System on all of the diesel engine powered vehicles in its fleet.

The special filters will eliminate the discharge of harmful exhaust emissions into the fire stations both when the vehicles are exiting and entering the stations.

This new system will serve to protect the health of the volunteer firefighters who work and train in the stations as well as those members of the community who visit the stations. The systems will also reduce exhaust damage to the walls, ceilings and furnishings inside of the fire stations.
