How To Get Your Home, Business Recognized With A Glen Ellyn Historic Preservation Awards

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Applications have opened for the 2026 Glen Ellyn Historic Preservation Awards. The annual awards recognize preservation, restoration, remodeling and streetscape projects completed on homes, businesses and institutional buildings within the village in 2025.

Applicants can nominate themselves or others in four categories:

• Restoration of the Year Award
• Remodeling Project of the Year Award
• Streetscape Compatibility Award
• Architectural Details Award

The Restoration of the Year Award is given to buildings or homes that are 50 years old or older that have undergone work "to restore the exterior of a home or building in a manner fitting its historic character while adhering to Glen Ellyn’s restoration guidelines and contributing to the preservation of Glen Ellyn history," according to a news release from the village.

The Remodeling Project of the Year Award applies to buildings and homes that are 50 years or older. It honors "an outstanding effort to remodel the exterior of a home or building in a manner maintaining or improving the architectural integrity and contributing to the preservation of Glen Ellyn history."

For the Streetscape Compatibility Award, homes and buildings of any age can be nominated. The award honors "outstanding effort" to build a structure (home or building) that contributes to the village's streetscape preservation.

Homes and buildings that are 50 years old or older can also apply for the Architectural Details Award, which focuses on the restoration of a structure's exterior details. This includes porches, decorative fences, windows and other restoration projects.
