Thousands Without Power This Morning in Chicago Suburbs; Chicago Skyway Closed

Is your home or workplace without power today? A high wind advisory remains in affect until 6 p.m. tonight.

Thousands are without power this morning throughout the Chicago suburbs, according to the ComEd outage map.

Severe weather and high winds whipped through the area Wednesday evening and through the night. A high wind advisory remains in affect through 6 p.m. this evening.

Pockets of outages could be found throughout the area with the western suburbs and communities in McHenry County among the hardest hit. Hundreds were without power in and near the south side communities of Chicago Ridge, South Holland, Calumet Park and Evergreen Park and just over 600 were without power in an area north of Interstate 90 in Park Ridge and nearly 200 were affected in LaGrange, according to a 9 a.m. update on the ComEd outage map.

Crews were responding to outages. You can check for updates on the ComEd website.

High winds also closed the Chicago Skyway in both directions from the Indian border to 91st Street, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Officials closed the Skyway following a crash involving two semis, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. The crash occurred when wind blew scaffolding onto the roadway. No injuries were reported and officials say the Skyway will likely be closed much of Thursday.
