Park district officials are is hoping a $2.9 million restoration project will help recreate the Lake Ellyn Boathouse as a ”close replica” of its original design and earn it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the Daily Herald. Restoration efforts began in September and so far and the boathouse now has a cedar shingle roof, most of the new windows have been installed and metal doors will soon be replaced with wooden ones.

A state national register coordinator has informally indicated the boathouse will likely make the list but has suggested that Lake Ellyn Park also be included in the nomination, according to the article. The board of commissioners agreed to follow that recommendation during a meeting Tuesday.
