Laughing for a Cause: HaHaMen and Phil’s Friends Partner

Lombard, Ill.: Cancer has touched most of us in some way, which is why HaHaMen is excited to partner with Phil’s Friends for their next event on Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Fountain of Life Church in Lombard. The show is free to attend, and the audience will be invited to participate in a free will offering to support the work and mission of Phil’s Friends.

Phil’s Friends was founded by two-time cancer survivor Phil Zielke in the mid 2000’s. Phil was so moved and motivated by the letters, cards, and care packages he received during his two battles with cancer, he began the ministry of Phil’s Friends to share that with others.

“Phil’s Friends is an organization that provides Christ-centered support and hope to those affected by cancer,” states founder Phil Zielke. “We reach out in three ways. The first way is care packages, the second way is through weekly cards that come to people’s houses and where they are in the hospital, and the third way is through prayer.”

HaHaMen Improv and Sketch Comedy Troupe is a comedy troupe that focuses on clean, family-friendly improv. Each member is a Christian and is committed to using their passions and gifts to honor God and serve people. From this mission the team berthed the “Good for the Soul” concept: a free show where audiences of all walks can come together to laugh and be distracted from the ups and downs of life, meanwhile giving back by raising awareness and funds for important charities or causes.

“I was first introduced to Phil’s Friends in 2014, when my church, and host of “Good for the Soul,” Fountain of Life went to Roselle to make the care packages,” said HaHaMen Co-Founder Dave Ebert. “The idea that, though I may never meet the person receiving the package, I might be able to help encourage them in their fight against cancer, it was amazing to think about. And they do this everyday, for thousands of people, and we want to help support them anyway we can.”

“Good for the Soul” is held on the third Monday of each month and is free admission. Beginning at 7:30PM, HaHaMen bring an evening of clean comedy in the form of short form improv, like many have seen on popular television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?,” long form improv, and sketch comedy. At the end of each show, guests are invited to contribute to a free will love offering benefitting the charity or cause of the night.
