League Of Women Voters President Presses Glen Ellyn To Adopt Ordinance Restricting ICE

On Feb. 23, Lynn Bruno urged the board to "take measures to ensure the safety and due process rights of all residents in our village."

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Lynn Bruno, president of the League of Women Voters Glen Ellyn (LWVGE), is pressing the village board to enact an ordinance to protect resident from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), prevent ICE from staging on village property or using village data and require local police to adhere to the Trust Act.

Bruno said LWVGE co-president Heather Fleming had addressed the village board in November with a similar measures restricting ICE, but "the response we received was unsatisfactory."

"Since that request was made and that response received, we have seen an appalling escalation of abuse by federal agents against immigrants and citizens alike – with little repercussions," Bruno said. "Renee Good was shot in the face. Alex Peretti was executed – shot ten times in the back."

"So, we are back to ask, perhaps a little more forcefully, that the Village take measures to ensure the safety and due process rights of all residents in our village."

"Our neighbors have been taken," Bruno added. "One of our children was detained at the Dilley Family Detention Center in Texas for 65 days. That is 45 days over the legal limit."

She said there are four counties and 16 nearby municipalities that have adopted such ordinances. At the February village 23 meeting, taff asked Bruno to provide them with a list of the counties and towns who have adopted similar ordinances.

In early February, Downers Grove adopted the Ordinance Concerning the Monitoring of ICE Activities. Shortly after, LaGrange passed their own ordinance for ICE restrictions.

Glen Ellyn shared a statement about ICE activity in November 2025. Citing the Illinois Trust Act, the statement went on to assert that Glen Ellyn police will neither "participate in or assist" nor "interfere" with "federal agencies carrying out their lawful duties within Glen Ellyn."
