Free Presentation by Dr. Chandra Gill Presented by Glenbard Parent Series and Families United in Support of Equity and Excellence
Educator and author Dr. Chandra Gill will discuss the importance of giving education a facelift in order to motivate youth to break the chains of fear during her free virtual talk “Blackademically Speaking: Inspiring All Learners” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23.

This event is presented by Families United in Support of Equity and Excellence and the Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families. College of DuPage is the livestream partner for the presentation, which will be available at cod.edu/gps.
Through an exploration of Black history and her own experiences, Gill will discuss ways to supplement standardized curriculums to enhance students’ learning potential, critical thinking skills and overall character.

Gill is the founder and CEO of Blackademically Speaking, an educational consulting company dedicated to providing motivational and culturally relevant content, products and services. Gill has spoken to national and international audiences alike to inspire, influence and instigate change. As part of the inaugural class for Gates Millennium Scholar’s Program, she was one of Chicago’s first African-American public school recipients at the graduate level. Gill was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa with high honors, after receiving her Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies.
A product of Chicago’s inner city, Gill believes that her experiences are connected organically to her life-long work of empowering youth, helping to eradicate violence, helplessness and hopelessness. Her Break the Chains Campaign, a spin-off of her first book, “Champions Break Chains,” has successfully reached audiences of more than 250,000 students, teachers and parents nationwide. She has been featured on major networks including WGN-TV, BET, TvOne, Radio One, MSNBC, NBC and various SiriusXM radio stations.

Gill’s presentation is aligned with Chaps Unite Against Racism, College of DuPage’s institution-wide initiative designed to empower and amplify the voices of COD students, faculty, staff, as well as the community to reflect, share and act to build a stronger community. The event will feature an opening welcome by COD Interim Dean of Students Dr. Nathania Montes.
