Letter from President of the League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn
School Board Petition Filing Deadline is December 15-22, 2014

While school board elections will not be held until April, the time for filing petitions is December 15-22—just about one month away. There will be three seats available on the boards for Glen Ellyn School District 41, Community Consolidated School District 89, and Glenbard High School District 87. There will also be three seats available on the Board of Trustees at College of DuPage.
The procedure for filing has changed this year. Information for filing for positions on the boards of Districts 41, 89, and 87 can be found under “School Board Elections” at iasb.com. Filing information for College of DuPage can be found on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees page at cod.edu – About COD.
Because education is the foundation of a democracy, the education of the children must be a top priority. But, accountability to the constituents is also important. It is the responsibility of the elected boards of the educational institutions to determine what type of schools will be provided with the funds available. The boards should provide transparency in their meetings, as well as providing for community input.

Now is the time to encourage capable, responsible community members to consider serving in one of these non-partisan positions. The future of our schools and the community depends on it.
