Local High School Runners Qualify for State
Congrats to all the local runners who will be headed to state next weekend.
Several area high school cross-country teams will be headed to state next weekend.
Glenbard West’s Lindsey Payne, a sophmore, won the girls Class 3A Aurora West sectional on Saturday with a time of 16:58. The Glenbard West team placed third overall, qualifying as a team for the state meet.

New Trier High School won the sectional and Wheaton Warrenville South High School placed second. Other qualifying teams include: Maine South High School and York High School. Qualifying individuals include: Emily Stegmeier, Elk Grove Village High School; Kathryn House, Loyola Academy; Maggie Scholle, Lane High School, Emma Dzwierzynski, Evanston Township High School, Nicole Camburn, Niles West High School, Fiona Casey, Northside High School, and Mahal Schroeder, Oak Park and River Forest High School.

York High School’s Charlie Kern Jr., a sophomore, won the sectional championship for the boys. The York High School boys cross-country team won the championship and will be headed to state.
Other top teams that will be going to state: Whitney Young High School, New Trier, Maine South and Wheaton North High School. Other qualifying individuals include: Danny Rose, Northside High School; Eric Neumann, Glenbard West; Martin Barr, Niles North; Kimathi Johnson, Oak Park and River Forest; Conor Perreault, Niles North; Colin Kirkham, Lake Park; and Henry Harper, Oak Park and River Forest.

The Glenbard South boys cross-country team will be headed to state as well after placing fifth at the Class 2A sectional held at Wheaton Academy. Glenbard South’s Abby Schlenker, a junior, will also compete at state after finishing in 17th place with a time of 19:18.
The state cross-country finals will be held on Nov. 7 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
