Local Muslims Hold Open Mosques To Combat Negative Stereotypes
Muslim groups aim to "invite our neighbors of all faiths to meet their Muslims neighbors and break down the barriers of the unknown."

GLEN ELLYN, IL -- In the wake of the deadly massacre that killed more than 50 people at a mosque in New Zealand, Muslim groups throughout the country are joining forces to host Open Mosque Days. Local mosques in Glendale Heights and Naperville are taking part in the effort to shatter negative stereotypes by opening their doors to neighbors who want to learn more about Islam.
The open houses are organized by GainPeace organization. Its director, Dr. Sabeel Ahmed said, "According to Pew Research, 67% of non-Muslims have never met Muslims. Thus, fear of the unknown often leads to suspicion, fear, hate, and bias of the others."
Dr. Ahmed added, "The goal of these Mosque Open Houses, is to invite our neighbors of all faiths to meet their Muslims neighbors and break down the barriers of the unknown."
