Illinois Man, 57, Kidnapped In Afghanistan: Report

Mark R. Frerichs was reportedly working in Afghanistan when he was kidnapped by a Taliban group.

AFGHANISTAN — A Lombard man has been kidnapped in Afghanistan by what is believed to be a Taliban group.

Mark R. Frerichs, 57, was kidnapped Friday in the country's Khost province, according to a report from Newsweek. The outlet reports that "U.S. officials believe the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network orchestrated the operation."

According to his LinkedIn page, Frerichs, a civil engineer, has been "living, working and consulting in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan and other conflict zones for over ten continuous years." Prior to that, he was a U.S. Navy deep sea diver.

Frerichs's father told Daily Herald he has "the utmost faith in President Trump and the FBI" will find Mark.
