Lottery Scammers Exploiting Elderly Hispanic Residents In Glendale Heights

The suspects in this "lotto scam" tell elderly Hispanic people they have won money and then request a sizable sum to claim the prize.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — Police are investigating a widespread scam that exploits elderly Hispanic people in Glendale Heights. The victims are told they have won a lottery and then convinced that they need to present money in order to claim their "winnings."

The suspects, who are believed to be Hispanic, reportedly pair up to inform the victim that they've won and then cajole the victim to withdraw money to cash in on the fictitious prize, according to Chicago Sun-Times. They duo accompanies the elderly victim to obtain money before instructing the victim to drop the money off at another location at a later time.

The offenders speak to their victims in Spanish and request a large amount of money, Chicago Sun-Times reports.
