Man in Critical Condition Following I-355 Crash

The three-vehicle crash happened Friday morning on I-355 in Lombard.

LOMBARD, IL A 33-year-old Algonquin man is in critical condition following a three-vehicle crash on southbound I-355 at St. Charles Road in Lombard Friday morning, police said Saturday.

The crash occurred when the driver of a black Chevrolet Blazer lost control of his vehicle and swerved to the right, striking a Chevrolet Equinox in the far right lane of traffic at about 7:02 a.m. on Friday, according to an Illinois State Police press release. The Blazer then swerved back to the left, struck the concrete median barrier and bounced back into traffic, striking a white Chevrolet Express in the far left lane of traffic.

The driver of the Blazer, a 33-year-old Algonquin man, was partially ejected from his vehicle and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital following the crash, according to the news release. Trooper David Roman of Illinois State Police District 15 told Patch in an e-mail the man suffered head trauma along with road rash and injuries to his extremities. He was in critical, but stable, condition, Roman said Saturday. The Algonquin man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The other drivers, a 31-year-old Roselle man and a 32-year-old Mount Prospect man, were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and were not taken to the hospital. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles. The identification of those involved in the crash was not available Saturday, police said.

The crash closed down I-355 for about three hours on Friday morning.
