For Immediate Release - For more information contact Melissa Koenig, President, Amateur Speedskating Association of Illinois, 773-230-8344 Thursday, March 31, 2022 The US Speedskating Tour of Olympians Driven by Toyota Stops in Chicagoland April 10th The Illinois Chicagoland speed skating clubs in Glen Ellyn, Franklin Park, Park Ridge and Northbrook are excited and proud to host two stops on the Tour of Olympians on Sunday, April 10th. The stops will feature 4 of the 2022 Speedskating Olympians - Ethan Cepuran, Glen Ellyn, IL, Glen Ellyn Speed Skating Club, Long Track - 5,000m & Team Pursuit (Bronze Medalist) Austin Kleba, Campton Hills, IL, Glen Ellyn Speed Skating Club, Long Track - 500m & 1000m Emery Lehman, Oak Park, IL, Franklin Park Speed Skating Club, Long Track - 5,000m, 1500m & Team Pursuit (Bronze Medalist) Andrew Heo, Warrington, PA, Potomac Speed Skating Club, Short Track - 1000m & Mixed Relay The first stop will be in Glen Ellyn at the B.R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County, 49 Deicke Drive, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, 630-858-0100, www.brryallymca.org, from 11:00am to 12:30pm and will feature interactive demonstrations on how to train like a speedskater on drylands, followed by a meet and greet and Q & A sessions where the Olympians will share their personal stories and thoughts about learning to skate at their local clubs and their paths to the Olympics. They will also be available for pictures and autographs. The activities are open to the general public to people all of all ages and fitness levels. You can participate or just observe and listen. The Glen Ellyn Speed Skating Club is thrilled to welcome Ethan and Austin back. They are the Club's first Olympians since 2002, 20 years ago. They also represent the first male Olympians since the Club's first Olympian 62 years ago in 1960. Ethan and Austin are 5th and 6th ever Olympians in the 84 year history of the Club which was founded in 1938. They also represent the first time Glen Ellyn has had two Olympians on the team in the same year, and, the first time a Glen Ellyn speed skater has won an Olympic Medal. The Chicagoland speed skating community is proud to welcome three time Olympian Emery Lehman home as well. Emery trained in the Glen Ellyn/Franklin Park club co-op early in his career and was the youngest US speed skating Olympian ever, and, became an Olympic Bronze Medalist in Beijing in 2022. The second stop of the day on the Tour will be at the Glenview Community Ice Center, 1851 Landwehr Road, Glenview, IL 60026, 847-724-2800, www.glenviewparks.org. The Olympians will be available in the lobby of the Center starting at 2:30pm to meet and greet attendees.
