Nearly 90% Of Burglarized Cars Left Unlocked: Glen Ellyn Police
Police say 89% of car burglaries and thefts in Glen Ellyn in 2017 were committed on unlocked vehicles.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn Police are urging residents to keep their cars locked at all times after recent reports that show the majority of vehicle thefts and burglaries in 2017 happened to unlocked cars. Police say 89% of cars that were stolen or broken into were left with their doors unlocked. Many even had the keys inside, police say.
According to police, 104 vehicles were burglarized in Glen Ellyn in 2017. Of these, 93 of the cars were not locked at the time of the burglary.
Glen Ellyn Police say 14 cars were stolen in 2017. All but one of them had been left unlocked and had the keys inside, Glen Ellyn Quarterly reported.

Police are advising residents to take active steps to protect their vehicles against theft and burglary by keeping cars locked and leaving valuables out of sight or taking them into your home when your car is unattended.
