The chairman of the Illinois Community College Board has appointed a new trustee to fill an open spot on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees.
David Olsen, 27, a Downers Grove village commissioner, will take over the vacancy left by former board member Kathy Hamilton, who resigned on Dec. 13, 2015, according to the College of DuPage. He is expected to serve until April 2017.

Olsen is set to be sworn in Feb. 18 at the next board of trustees meeting.
“We are pleased to have a seventh Trustee identified, and we welcome Mr. Olsen to the College,” said Acting Interim President Joe Collins in a statement. “I believe he will be an excellent addition to our board. His background as student body president at the University of Illinois demonstrates a strong commitment to students. The College’s most important focus – now and always – is the success of our students.”

Following Hamilton’s departure, there has been a 3-3 split on the board. Olsen told Suburban Life Publications he hopes to “work with each of the trustees to get things done.”
“My role is not to be the fourth vote on any certain voting bloc,” Olsen told the newspaper. “My role is to be a voice for the people of the community. I would like to work with each of the trustees to get things done.”
