New Philharmonic Conducts Young Peoples' Competition at the MAC May 18

Audition Reservation Deadline: Thursday, May 15

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – Maestro Kirk Muspratt and New Philharmonic are pleased to announce the 10th New Philharmonic Young Peoples’ Competition taking place 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 in Room 140 at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to perform their audition work at a New Philharmonic orchestra concert within 18 months of the audition.

The competition is open to young instrumentalists and vocalists who reside in College of DuPage Community College District 502 or who study with a teacher in District 502. At the time of audition, students Can be any age up through junior year of high school.

Whether singing or playing an instrument, auditioners may perform a maximum two-minute solo, duet, trio, or quartet for the audition. Auditioners must provide their own accompanist for the audition and performance, if selected. A winner’s concert assignment will be at the discretion of the Music Director.

Students seeking to schedule an audition should call the McAninch Arts Center Administration Office Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 630.942.3008 or by email macoffice@cod.edu. New Philharmonic, the only professional orchestra based in DuPage County, Ill., has inspired classical music enthusiasts in Chicago and the suburbs for more than four decades. New Philharmonic was recently honored with the Illinois Council of Orchestras’ 2020 ICO Award in the category Programming of the Year. It continues to thrive with the goal of giving innovative treatment to both classic compositions and modern works while striving to make the music accessible to new audiences and youth through a variety of educational efforts. Today, under the direction of Music Director/Conductor Kirk Muspratt, named 2018 Conductor of the Year (Professional Orchestra) by Illinois Council of Orchestras, New Philharmonic consists of more than 60 professional musicians and typically performs more than a dozen concerts a year, reaching more than 7,500 from the greater Chicago area annually.
