No Bond For Men Accused Of Armed Robbery, Fleeing Cops In Lombard

LOMBARD, IL — Two Chicago men are being held without bond after police say they robbed a Lombard 7-Eleven at gunpoint, stealing cash and 33 cartons of cigarettes.

Reginald Allen, 53, and Lennell Owens, 46, have been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the June 11 incident. Allen was charged with armed robbery, armed habitual criminal and unlawful use of a weapon. Owens was charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

According to police Allen and Owens came into the 7-Eleven on South Westmore-Myers Road around 6:45 p.m. on June 11 and showed a handgun, demanding that the employee give them cash. Owens is accused of heading to the back of the store and holding another employee at gunpoint to steal cigarette cartons and the employee's phone.

Police say Allen and Owens then fled in a Jeep Wrangler, heading south on Westmore-Myers Road

Shortly after, brief pursuit ensued near a parking lot on Roosevelt Road, with Lombard police attempting to stop the Wrangler. Police say Owens was driving the Jeep and reached speeds of more than 80 mph in a zone with a 35 mph speed limit.

The Jeep then got onto I-355 and members of the Illinois State Police worked with a helicopter from the Chicago Police Department to spot the Jeep close to Route 83 and I-290. Owens is accused of getting off I-290 and onto 17th Avenue before crashing into a tree on 74th Avenue in Elmwood Park.

Owens, Allen and another passenger, were taken into custody after the crash. Owens was hospitalized until June 13 with stomach injuries form the crash.

Police say they executed a search warrant for the Jeep Wrangler and found a loaded Glock 10 mm handgun, 33 cartons of cigarettes and close to $200
cash .

“For the third time in as many days, bond was denied for a defendant accused of committing a violent crime in DuPage County,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “These types of crimes are extremely serious and consequently those accused of such will experience the full force of the law from apprehension through prosecution."

Allen is set to appear in court again June 29. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted.

Owens is scheduled for a court appearance June 30 and faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted.
