CCMA opens new season with Tony Fitzpatrick-"Jesus of Western Avenue" Oct. 16; MAC hosts Mike Super-"Magic and Illusion" Oct. 17

It is a weekend of Oct. 16-17 will be a weekend of art and magic in Glen Ellyn as The Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA) opens the new exhibition: Tony Fitzpatrick-"Jesus of Western Avenue," and the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) Belushi Performance Hall stage hosts the return of popular illusionist Mike Super in "Magic & Illusion." Both CCMA and the MAC are located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage.
CCMA, , opens its inaugural season with Tony Fitzpatrick: "Jesus of Western Avenue," the final museum exhibition by world-renowned multimedia artist and celebrated Chicago resident Tony Fitzpatrick. The exhibition will feature over 60 mixed media works. These graphically rich and inventive works deliver messages and stories that reflect on the artist’s connection to Chicago, his social and political concerns and our shared changing reality. “While Tony’s artwork is deeply influenced by the Chicago area, it is recognized around the world,” said Cleve Carney Museum of Art Curator Justin Witte. “Tony is one of the most well-known artists working in Chicago today and we are thrilled to be able to feature him as we launch our first full season at Cleve Carney Museum of Art.”
Fitzpatrick has work in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami and has also created album art for music icons including Lou Reed, Steve Earle and The Neville Brothers. Fitzpatrick is best known for his multimedia collages, printmaking, paintings and drawings.

Mike Super, winner of NBC’s hit show “Phenomenon” and “America’s Got Talent” finalist, returns to the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) with his newest show, “Magic and Illusion” 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17. Back by popular demand, Super will entertain young and old alike with his down-to-earth personality and humor while astonishing them to disbelief with his magic and illusions. This show is the closest one can get to the perfect family show: sophisticated enough for adults, cool enough for teens, and completely engaging for children's imaginations.

Super has amazed celebs including Howie Mandel, Louie Anderson, Howard Stern, Ariana Grande, Tina Fey, Heidi Klum, Penn & Teller, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Criss Raven-Symoné, Kenny Chesney and Ellen DeGeneres to name but a few. His ever-growing popularity has garnered him many prestigious awards and honors, including Entertainer of the Year, Best Performing Artist of the Year, and Best Novelty Performer of the Year. Super was also voted America’s Favorite Mystifier on NBC’s hit TV Show “Phenomenon” and top finalist on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” yet he insists it is the loyalty of his legions of fans that has been the most rewarding.
