Packages Stolen From Porches In Glen Ellyn, Wheaton

Two residents reported that their packages had been stolen.

GLEN ELLYN, IL -- Police in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn have recently received reports of packages stolen from porches outside of the homes of residents. The Wheaton incident was reported on Jan. 23 and the Glen Ellyn theft was reported on Jan. 17, according to police reports from the respective agencies.

Wheaton police say that on Jan. 23, a package was stolen from the porch of a home in the 1500 block of Mayo Avenue. The victim told police that the theft took place sometime between 9:23 a.m. and 12 p.m.

In Glen Ellyn, a resident told police that a package was taken from outside of their home in the 300 block of Farnsworth after it had been delivered by a mail carrier. Police say the item was stolen sometime between 3:24 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Though package thefts are often more widely reported during the holiday season, residents are still advised to take precautions throughout the year. Some tips offered by law enforcement agencies include:

  • Requiring a signature for a package
  • Asking a neighbor to retrieve the package
  • Installing security lights or cameras
