Playground Arson, Damage, Graffiti Cause $40K In Damage In Glen Ellyn

Glen Ellyn police are investigating crimes that caused close to $40,000 at local parks, including an arson at Newton Park.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn police are investigating incidents of property damage and vandalism that have caused close to $40,000 in damages to parks throughout the village. Most recently, the Newton Park's new playground was set on fire and its sensory garden was damaged.

The incidents have been taking place after dark and teens and pre-teens are usually the suspects, according to a news release from the Glen Ellyn Park District. Police say they have had to respond to reports of graffiti weekly.

Park district officials plan to install more security cameras, but urge anyone who witnesses vandalism in Glen Ellyn parks to call 630-858-6037.
