DuPage County police arrested five people Wednesday night for beating and robbing a good Samaritan who had come to help them after they claimed they were having car troubles in unincorporated Wheaton, police said Thursday.

Police said two juveniles and the following individuals have been charged with robbery and aggravated battery following the strong armed robbery that took place in September: Devonte Allmon, 18, of the 600 block of Michigan Avenue in Villa Park; Nathan Rodriguez, 18, of the 600 block of Swift Road in Addison; and Kyle Deger, 21, of the 400 block of Phillips Ave. in Glen Ellyn.

The juvenile victim received a phone call from one of the suspects around 12 a.m. on Sept. 21. The suspect said they were having car trouble and asked if he could bring some money and help them, according to a DuPage County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The victim got dressed and went to help the juvenile suspect who said his vehicle was broken down at a nearby residence in unincorporated Wheaton. When the victim arrived, he was approached by a male who asked him if he was looking for the juvenile suspect, police said. He was then punched and kicked by three males who took his cell phone and his wallet from his pocket, according to police.

The victim ran back into the home and the suspects drove away.

The suspects are accused of picking the male victim because they considered him wealthy. They planned to use the money they stole to buy alcohol and drugs, police said.

Allmon, Rodridguez and Deger are currently being held in the DuPage County Jail. They were expected to appear in bond court Thursday morning. The two juveniles are being held in the Kane County Youth Home.
