Police Investigate Threat Made Against Students at Glenbard West

The threat was made Thursday over social media, police said.

Classes are in session Friday at Glenbard West after police on Thursday launched an investigation into an alleged threat made and determined the post posed no threat to staff or students, police said.

Police said they were called to investigate after threats of violence against students was made by another student through social media, according to a Glen Ellyn Police Department press release.

"The investigation swiftly lead officers to conclude that there was no danger to staff or students at Glenbard West High School," according to the news release.

Peter Monaghan, the principal at Glenbard West, said police "identified the source of the post and have taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff."

Police planned to provide a "strong presence" at the school following the threat, which remains under investigation.

"Unfortunately, incidents like these occur in schools today. Be assured, every rumor is treated seriously," Monaghan said. "Please understand that in any situation such as this, our primary focus is on working closely with law enforcement and keeping students and staff safe while we determine the credibility of a threat."
