Officials also said Saturday night's Independence Day event and fireworks were cancelled due to park conditions from Friday night storms and the threat of more severe weather.
"The Independence Day Foundation, Village of Glen Ellyn, Park District and Police Department have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s celebration due to park conditions resulting from the past few days’ storms, in addition to more pending weather," officials said. "We know this is unfortunate news and hope to reschedule the celebration later this summer. More information will come as it is available."
A parade through downtown Glen Ellyn was still scheduled for noon as planned.
On Friday, the Lake Ellyn Park playground was also closed after a tree was hit by lightning. The playground reopened on Saturday.
