Police Seek Information on Man Accused of Killing Area Teen in 1985

Local police are asking for the public’s help in providing details on Michael R. Jones who was arrested this past week for the murder of of Kristina Wesselman on July 21, 1985.

Jones, 62, of Champaign, was arrested for Wesselman’s murder after DNA linked him to the crime scene. Wesselman, who was 15 years old at the time, was murdered on July 21, 1985. She was walking home from the Jewel Food Store near Butterfield and Route 53 in unincorporated Glen Ellyn and was last seen walking toward her home at about 4:30 p.m. She never returned home and was later reported missing by her mom.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who had personal contact with Jones on July 21, 1985, or during the summer of 1985 in Glen Ellyn or the surrounding area to contact police at 630-407-2333. Photos above show Jones’ appearance around the time of the murder

Jones is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault on Sunday in connection with Weselman’s death.
