Police Urge Caution Following Rash of Stolen Vehicle Reports
The thieves are using garage door openers left inside unlocked vehicles to get into homes and steal keys and wallets.

GLEN ELLYN, IL - Glen Ellyn police are urging residents to keep their cars locked and to avoid leaving their keys in their car following a rash of stolen vehicle reports over the summer across the suburbs.
In most of the cases, suspects are taking vehicles that are unlocked and have the keys inside. But in some cases, suspects are using garage door openers found inside unlocked vehicles to get into the homes to search for keys, according to a press release from the Glen Ellyn Police Department.
Personal items, such as wallets and keys, are also being taken, according to police.

In addition to locking cars and not leaving keys inside the vehicles, residents are encouraged to avoid leaving items inside their vehicles that may “entice a thief” to break into the car.
Most of the thefts are occurring during overnight hours so residents are also reminded to leave exterior lights on around the home, police said. And if you see any suspicious activity, be sure to call 911.
