Roll over to Touch-a-Truck on May 5

Over 20 trucks will be available for kids to explore at Maryknoll Park in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, May 5.

A chance to get a close-up view of big trucks is coming to Glen Ellyn on Saturday, May 5th, when the Glen Ellyn Park District presents Touch-A-Truck. This free event will be held in the parking lot at Maryknoll Park (845 Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn).

Some of the over 20 trucks featured include: Glen Ellyn Fire Department’s fire truck, CDH’s Mobile Stroke Unit, a UPS package car, and a concrete mixer. A steamroller will also be at the event, ready to flatten aluminum cans brought to the event by visitors.

Touch-A-Truck appeals to kids of all ages, but it’s especially fun for preschoolers and kindergarten students,” said Jessica Marquez, Recreation Supervisor with the Glen Ellyn Park District. There will be a horn-free hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for little ones with sensitive ears.

Returning to the event this year will be a kiddie trackless train. Families may purchase a ride for $2 per ticket (cash only). Touch-A-Truck will also feature prize raffles and a themed give-away (while supplies last). Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to help the Glen Ellyn Police Department “fill a squad,” with donations going to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

“Parking for the event is located at the nearby Roosevelt Glen Corporate Center, 799 Roosevelt Road, where a free school bus shuttle will pick up and drop off Touch-A-Truck visitors every 15 minutes,” explained Marquez. There is no parking available within Maryknoll Park on the day of the event.
