Ruse Burglary Attempt Under Investigation In Lombard

Police say a man claimed to be a contractor who needed to get inside an elderly woman's home to check her water and gas lines.

LOMBARD, IL — Police in Lombard are investigating an attempted ruse burglary that took place Tuesday afternoon. According to police, a man claiming to be a contractor attempted to enter an elderly woman's home near the intersection of Finley Road and 22nd Street.

Police say the man told the woman he was a contractor and had damaged her water line. The man asked to get into the woman's home to "check her water and gas lines," according to a news release on the Village of Lombard Facebook page.

The woman sensed something was off and did not allow the purported contractor into her home. According to police, a similar incident took place in the same area and is being investigated by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Police say that during the other incident, two people came to a woman's home distracted her while stealing cash and jewelry from the home.
