Sean Hayes Wins Tony Award, Does Glen Ellyn Proud

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The 2023 Tony Awards will hold a special spot in Glen Ellyn's heart, as one of the very own snagged one of the evening's coveted awards. Actor Sean Hayes won the Tony award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his lauded performance in "Goodnight, Oscar."

Hayes was raised in Glen Ellyn and graduated from Glenbard West High School before making his way to Hollywood and Broadway. Hayes boasts a long resume of impactful roles, but he may be best known for playing Jack on "Will & Grace."

The Tony win is among a line of awards Hayes has received since gaining popularity in television and theater. The actor won an Emmy and four Screen Actors Guild awards for his work on "Will & Grace."

Hayes has played the role of Oscar Levant since "Goodnight, Oscar" debuted at Chicago's Goodman Theatre in 2022. The show, which depicts the life of concert pianist and presenter Oscar Levant, opened on Broadway in April 2023.

During the award ceremony Sunday, Hayes thanked Scott Icenogle, his husband of nearly a decade, saying, "You are my purpose, every single day of my life."

"Goodnight, Oscar" is set to play at New York City's Belasco Theatre through August.
