Teen Charged After ‘Burglary Crew’ Targets 35 Glen Ellyn-Area Vehicles, 1 Home
The burglaries occurred in the area of Route 53 and Butterfield Road in unincorporated Glen Ellyn early Monday.

Five juveniles have been arrested in connection with at least 35 vehicle burglaries and one home burglary that occurred early Monday in unincorporated Glen Ellyn. The group is also accused of stealing a vehicle during their crime spree.
The juveniles, who are not being named because of their age, were all part of a “burglary crew” from Chicago, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Robert Harris said in a news release late Monday.
Police were called to the area of Route 53 and Butterfield Road in unincorporated Glen Ellyn at about 3 a.m. on Monday for a report of a burglary in progress. There, they found a stolen vehicle.

While investigating the burglaries, five male black juveniles were identified as suspects and an extensive manhunt followed, which involved multiple foot pursuits, police said.
“With the collective efforts of several police agencies all five suspects were apprehended,” Harris said.

The suspects, four who live in Chicago and one who lives in Calumet City, admitted to stealing a vehicle from Chicago and traveling to DuPage County to commit burglaries, police said.
One teen has been charged with residential burglary and is being detained at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Facility. All of the suspects face possible additional charges for criminal trespassing to motor vehicle, burglary to motor vehicle and possession of stolen motor vehicle.
