GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — In Glendale Heights, a silent parade and a display of 2,977 American flags will pay tribute to the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The flags will be on display at Glendale Heights Village Hall starting Sept. 9 and the parade and remembrance ceremony is set for Sept. 11.

With sirens off and lights flickering, vehicles from the village's emergency fleet will start the Sept. 11 silent parade at 7:15 p.m. at Reskin Elementary School, 1555 Ardmore Ave. The parade will head west on Fullerton Avenue as it makes its way to Glendale Heights Village Hall.

At village hall, a remembrance ceremony will be held to honor victims of the attacks. Those who attend can also view artifacts saved from the Sept. 11 attacks.

Starting Sept. 9, 2,977 American flags will be on display outside Glendale Heights Village Hall, 300 Civic Center Plaza. In total, 2,977 people lost their lives when four planes were hijacked Sept. 11, 2001.

American flags will also line the parade route along Fullerton Avenue. Residents are encouraged to display their own American flags as part of the 20th anniversary observance.
