Train Hits Car Stuck on Tracks in Glen Ellyn

A train vs. vehicle accident in Glen Ellyn caused extensive damage to the vehicle, but the driver was not in the car.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Joliet woman was arrested for DUI after a train struck a car stuck on railroad tracks on Prospect Avenue in Glen Ellyn Saturday night. Police responded to a report of a car stuck on the tracks shortly before 8 p.m. Union Pacific stopped all train traffic in the area as police investigated the scene.

Upon arrival, police said they found the driver of the vehicle, Michelle Regan, 41, outside of the car. Officers spotted a train heading eastbound on Prospect Avenue and moved everyone to safety. Police were unable to remove Regan’s car from the tracks and the train collided with the vehicle at high impact. The train crash extensively damaged Regan’s vehicle and one of the warning mechanisms at the train crossing. No one was injured.

Police arrested Regan on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Union Pacific train traffic was halted near the scene of the crash as police completed their investigation late Saturday.
