West Chicago Man Charged in DUI Crash That Killed Warrenville Man
Antiono Alvarez, a married father of two, died in the crash Friday in West Chicago.

Bond was set at $500,000 Monday for a 29-year-old West Chicago man accused of driving drunk and causing a crash Friday that killed a Warrenville man.
Omar Montoya Medina, of 144 E. Pomeroy St. in West Chicago, has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death following the Dec. 5 crash that killed Antonio Alvarez, 37, prosecutors said.
The crash occurred at about 11:07 p.m. on Friday when police said Medina was traveling north on Route 59 near Garys Mill Road.

Police said Medina crashed his vehicle into Alvarez’s vehicle, which was facing west on Garys Mills Road and attempting to turn left onto Route 59, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.
Both vehicles were on fire when police arrived at the scene. Medina and a passenger in his vehicle were taken to to Cadence Health/Central DuPage Hospital and suffered from burns and other injuries.

Alvarez was found dead at the scene.
Police said Medina’s blood alcohol content was .16 -- which is twice the legal limit of .08, according to the news release.
“Three days ago, Antonio Alvarez, a married father of two, died from injuries he sustained allegedly at the hands of a drunk driver,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. “Driving is a privilege that if abused can lead to irreversible consequences, as alleged in this case.”
Medina is next expected in court on Jan. 5 for an arraignment.
