Wheaton Man Charged With Starting Fight With 3 People at Glen Ellyn Hotel
The 27-year-old Wheaton man was allegedly armed with a gun when he confronted the three people, police said.

A 27-year-old Wheaton man who was armed with a handgun is accused of starting a brawl with three people at a hotel in Glen Ellyn this past week, police said Friday.
David J. Abdulkarim, of the 1300 block of Tall Oaks Lane in Wheaton, now faces several charges in connection with the Wednesday morning fight that occurred at the Budgetel Inn at 677 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, William Holmer, assistant chief of police for the Glen Ellyn Police Department, said in a news release.
Abdulkarim confronted the three people at the Budgetel Inn at about 6:45 a.m. and one of the victims fought him off, according to police.

Abdulkarim took a phone from one of the victims and fled the scene. Officers found Abdulkarim in Panfish Park a short time later. As they were taking him into custody, he allegedly threw objects into a pond, according to authorities.
A dive team searched the pond and found the evidence, Holmer said.

Abdulkarim has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, battery, aggravated assault, theft, resisting a peace officer and attempted obstructing justice.
