Wheaton Police Hand Out Tickets for Railroad Crossing Violations

Police said tickets were issued to two motor vehicles that drove around railroad gates while eight were ticketed for crossing violations.

The Wheaton Police Department handed out tickets to residents illegally crossing railroad tracks in town last week as part of Illinois Rail Safety Week.

Police issued eight crossing violations to pedestrians and two tickets to motor vehicles going around railroad gates in the down position, according to Wheaton Police.

In 2013, there were 126 crossing collisions involving motor vehicles that resulted in 40 injuries and 21 fatalities. There were 52 individuals involved in railroad trespassing incidents that resulted in 27 injuries and 25 fatalities.
