Would-Be Thief Gets Into Car While Owner In Backseat: Cops

The incident took place outside of a YMCA in Glen Ellyn.

GLEN ELLYN, IL --- Glen Ellyn police are investigating an incident in which a would-be thief got in to a car in an attempt to steal it, but was scared away by the car's owner, who was in the backseat. The incident took place in the parking lot of YMCA at 49 Deicke Dr. on Oct. 29, according to a police summary.

The victim told police that they were in the backseat when the suspect got into the front seat and started trying to put the car in drive. Police say the victim then screamed, which scared the suspect and caused them to flee from the car.

The suspect then got into a large, dark-colored SUV and fled.
