12U Shockwave continues its winning ways in Palatine

12U Shockwave takes 2nd place at the Palatine Stingray Showdown July 7-10, 2016. #LikeAGlenviewGirl

After taking a break over the Fourth of July weekend, the 12U Shockwave were back to their winning ways, taking 2nd place in the 16-team Palatine Stingray Showdown on July 7-10. The team went 3-0 in pool play to earn the 2nd seed, defeating the Elmhurst Emeralds by a score of 8-2, the Vernon Hills Stingers by a score of 5-0 and the Arlington Redbirds by a score of 15-0. Of special note was Lauren C’s return to the mound as a starter and pitching a complete game shutout.

On an absolutely gorgeous day for bracket play, the 12U Shockwave started things off with a 12-2 victory against Windy City Thunder 12U to advance to the semi-finals. The girls then squared off against Rage Fastpitch 12U (from Beloit, WI), winning a tight game by a final score of 5-2. The girls met the Elk Grove Heat Black in the championship game. After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, the girls showed some great fight to make it a game, but ended up taking second place, losing 8-4 in 7 innings. In 7 tournaments played this years, the 12U Shockwave have been in 6 championship games, including winning 2 championships. The team’s record is 37-13 for the season.
