2 Drivers Arrested After Drag Race Turns Into Crash: Cops

The Chicago men are accused of racing the wrong way down Carlson Drive on May 20.

Two Chicago men are accused of drag racing each other May 20, which resulted in a crash, according to police reports.

Josue D. Figueroa, 20, of the 4800 block of North Kenneth Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving on wrong side of road. Josue A. Figueroa-Estrada, 41, of the 4700 block of North St. Louis Street, Chicago, was arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving without a license.

Police responded to a report of drag racing at about 4:31 p.m. in the 2200 block of Carlson Drive. The caller said the other drivers were on the wrong side of the road and racing directly at him as he traveled southbound on Carlson.

When the car Figueroa was driving came up on the caller's vehicle, Figueroa lost control, sped off the road and hit a tree, the police report states.

At the scene, police found Figueroa and Figueroa-Estrada and their cars, and they took the two into custody, the report added. Both men were released on $2,000 bail, and their next court date is June 20.
