3 Drivers Charged With DUI After Crashes: Glenview Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Various tools were stolen from a truck parked at a business in the 2800 block of Patriot Boulevard between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 8. Thieves stole two drills, reciprocating saws, blades, batteries, a nail gun and drill bits worth an estimated $2,360.
  • Someone stole an iPad from an unlocked Ford pickup truck parked at a home in the 2800 block of Leanne Court between 4 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 8 for a reported loss of $300.

THEFT/ATTEMPTED COUNTERFEITING
An employee of a restaurant in the 2000 block of Tower Drive reported that around 8 p.m. on Jan. 8 an unidentified man attempted to pay an $11 bill with a fake $100 bill. As the employee went to get a marker to test the bill, the patron grabbed the $89 in change and fled the scene.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 1600 block of Pebble Creek Drive reported someone burglarized their home between 9:30 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 9. It appeared someone had pried open a garage door and ransacked the master bedroom, stealing various pieces of jewelry for a loss of over $4,600.

SHOPLIFTING
Around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, Glenview police noticed a man running from a store in the 900 block of Greenwood Road with what appeared to be a bottle of alcohol and get into a nearby black Jeep. As the officers approached the man he tossed the bottle, which had been stolen from the store, according to a clerk. Officers detained the man until he could be turned over to Cook County Sheriff's Police, since the incident took place in unincorporated Glenview.

FIREWORKS
Police were called to the 1300 block of Plymouth Lane around 7 p.m. on Jan. 10 after receiving several reports of residents hearing a loud bang in the area. Officers checked the area but did not find anything. Residents reported hearing another bang shortly before midnight that night. Police again checked the area and discovered two spent fireworks canisters in one of the yards. No suspects were located.

THEFT
A worker in the 2200 block of Covert Road reported that someone had stolen $7,250 worth of tools, including a nail gun, air compressor and two saws from a work site between 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 8 a.m. on Jan. 11.

ATTEMPTED SHOPLIFTING/TRESPASS WARNING
An employee of a store in the 1900 block of Tower Road reported noticing a woman go into the dressing room on Jan. 11 with two pieces of clothing and come out without either item. She was stopped as she tried to leave the store and found to have been hiding two clothes worth a combined $72 in her purse. She was given a trespass warning and released without charges.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 3800 block of Glenview Road reported on Jan. 11 that earlier that day someone had burglarized their home, stealing a ring and a Nintendo game for a reported loss of $130. It was not known how the home was entered at the time of the report.

THEFT FROM BREAK ROOM
The manager of a business in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported on Jan. 11 that someone had stolen an employee's backpack and tote bag from a break room sometime on Jan. 1. A cellphone, video games and other property was reported stolen fora loss of more than $1,000.

BATTERY
Officers were called to the parking lot of the post office at 1400 Patriot Blvd. for a battery that had just taken place. Two United States Postal Service employees who work at the business had just had an argument in the east lot where one had knocked an ear bud out of the other's ear. In retaliation, she slapped the other employee in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. Neither staffer was injured or wished to press charges.

SCRATCHED SUV
The owner of a 2017 GMC SUV reported on Jan. 14 that someone had scratched it on the side at an unknown time with an unknown object, causing an unknown amount of damage.

ARRESTS

Leonard Thomas, 31, of the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on the afternoon of Jan. 8 at Lake County Jail and charged with retail theft. in connection with an Oct. 24 incident in the 2800 block of Pfingsten Road. Thomas was in custody in Lake County in connection with a charge of felony retail theft in Highland Park on Oct. 25.

A 27-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 8 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road and charged with driving without a valid license following an investigation into a traffic crash that occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the 2300 block of Willow Road. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Michal Sawicki, 35, of the 24200 block of Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Jan. 8 at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Golf Road and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license in connection with two-car traffic crash that had just occurred at the intersection of Waukegan and Glenview roads. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

Brayan Cortez, 20, of the 10300 block of Michael Todd Terrace, Glenview, and Jamie Montesa, 21, of the 900 block of Central Road, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 8 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with disorderly conduct following an investigation of harassment in the 3900 block of Glenview Road.

Eleanor Brooks, 31, of the 400 block of Cumnor Road, Kenilworth, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 9 and charged with disorderly conduct following an investigation into a dispute in the 1800 block of Elmdale Road.

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 7 a.m. on Jan. 10 and charged with driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with an expired registration and following a traffic stop in the 200 block of Waukegan Road.

Kamari Evans, 23, of the 2100 block of North Heather Lane, Palatine, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Jan. 10 in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a three-car traffic crash in the lot, which caused a minor injuries.

Christoper Schnyder, 50, of the 7600 block of Beckwith Road, Morton Grove, was arrested at 11:37 p.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more following an investigation into a two-car traffic crash in the 1110 block of Shermer Road. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Helen Savaiano, 57, of the 800 block of Pleasant Lane, Glenview, was arrested at 7:14 p.m. on Jan. 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Winnetka Road. She was also issued a citation for driving without headlights when required.
