Bad Check Buys Lumber; Man Interferes With Felony Arrest: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Glenview Police Department blotter: Jan. 2 to Jan. 8

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A speed monitor sign at Glenview Road and Harlem Avenue was found broken and laying in the road around 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 1. The reported cost to the taxpayer-funded property is $2,500.

  • A customer at a store in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road reported around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 that someone had stolen an iPad that had been left behind for a loss of $380.
  • A patron in the 2400 block of Chestnut Avenue reported around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 that someone had taken a set of wireless headphone from a bench where they had been left for a loss of $80.
  • A shopper at a store in 100 block of Waukegan Road reported around 4:12 p.m. on Jan. 1 that someone had taken a red "University of Pennsylvania" wallet containing cash, cards and ID at a self-checkout counter for a loss of $1,000.

TRESPASSING

  • A resident in the 1900 block of Shermer Road reported around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 that someone was on their property without permission.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Glendale Road reported around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 that someone was on their property without permission.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Two cars were burglarized in the 900 block of Buccaneer Drive between midnight and 7 a.m. on Jan. 2. Someone stole cash and sunglasses from one of them for a loss of $27. The other car was rummaged through after being left unlocked, with nothing reporter taken.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Lotus Lane reported around 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 5 that someone had broken the driver's side window of a vehicle parked in a driveway during the previous night, stealing a backpack with a laptop inside for a loss of $500.

DEFACEMENT
An employee in the 2500 block of Harrison Street reported around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 4 that someone had spray painted graffiti on the field house, causing an estimated $250 in damage.

ATTEMPTED ART THEFT
A resident in the 1300 block of Greenwillow Lane reported around 5:43 p.m. on Jan. 4 that someone had tried to used a fraudulent check to purchase a painting being offered for sale online.

THEFT OF CAR PARTS
An employee of a business in the 2000 block of Waukegan Road reported around 4:05 p.m. on Jan. 4 that someone had stolen $50 worth of car parts from the lot.

WALLET THEFT
A shopper in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported someone stole their wallet for a loss of $435 at some point prior to 1:45 p.m. on Jan. 5.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A resident of the 2100 block of Patriot Boulevard reported around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 6 that they had received unwanted emails.

NOISE COMPLAINT
A resident in the 2000 block of Saipan Drive reported loud noise from a neighbor around 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 6.

BOUNCED CHECK
An employee of a business in the 1900 block of Lehigh Avenue reported a customer paid for more than $1,000 in lumber with a check that was returned for insufficient funds.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee of a store in the 2200 block of Shermer Road reported around 3 p.m. on Jan. 7 that someone had stolen an Xbox and controllers for a loss of $1,000.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 2100 block of Franklin Drive reported around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 that someone had entered their home through an unlocked door. Nothing was reported stolen.

ARRESTS

Sandra Calvillo, 29, of the 1300 block of West Branch Road, Northfield, was arrested around 1:23 a.m. on Jan. 2 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. In the same incident, Nestor Bahena-Garcia, 30, of the 1000 block of 10th Street, Northfield, was arrested and charged with obstructing a police officer by interfering in the arrest of Calvillo.

A 39-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 7:11 p.m. on Jan. 3 and charged with driving without a valid driver's license following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was also ticketed for not having a rear registration light.

David Guzman Garcia, 23, of the 1300 block of South Sir Galahad Lane, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 11 a.m. on Jan. 4 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident following an investigation into a traffic crash in the area of Willow and Shermer roads around 5:48 p.m. on Jan. 2.

Narciza Chavez, 56, of the 1400 block of Plymouth Place, Glenview, was arrested in the 1400 block of Plymouth Place and charged with domestic battery.
