GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and arrests made by officers. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and may be dropped or reduced. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
A resident in the 2500 block of East Lake Avenue reported July 21 that someone posing as a Federal Trade Commission officer convinced them to withdraw $30,500 in cash.
The caller falsely claimed the money needed to be secured as part of a federal fraud investigation. The resident surrendered the cash to an unidentified courier.
A resident in the 2500 block of East Lake Avenue reported July 21 that an in-home caregiver allegedly searched the residence for valuables and stole approximately $15,200 worth of dishes.
No arrest was reported.
A resident reported July 24 that they received a letter claiming they had won $750,000 from Publishers Clearing House.
The letter included a $9,000 check and instructions to contact a person identified as Rolland Cook. The resident was told to deposit the check, withdraw $6,000 and mail the money to an address in California.
The original check later bounced, leaving the resident with a $6,000 loss.
An employee at a business in the 1500 block of Greenwood Road reported July 24 that someone used their credit card on several occasions, causing a total loss of $2,585.
In a separate incident, a resident reported receiving a call from a man claiming to represent a bank in Toronto. The caller said the resident's credit card had been used to purchase firearms and that the resident was involved in investigations in New York and with the FBI.
The resident provided personal and banking information but had not observed any financial loss or suspicious account activity at the time of the report.
A resident in the 3600 block of Russett Lane also reported July 20 that someone illegally accessed a retirement account and withdrew $89,000. The funds were reportedly deposited into a fraudulent bank account opened using the resident's name.
Officers responded at approximately 1:54 a.m. July 22 to a catalytic-converter theft in progress in the 200 block of Lincoln Street.
Police saw a black Toyota Camry matching the description of the suspected vehicle leave at a high rate of speed. Officers confirmed that a catalytic converter had been removed from a vehicle.
A resident in the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue reported July 23 that a catalytic converter had been cut from a vehicle.
A resident in the 3100 block of Bellwood Lane reported July 25 that a person attempted to enter the home while claiming to be there for an internet installation.
The homeowner refused entry, and the person left in a white work van with a ladder on top.
Minutes later, a resident in the 1500 block of Midway Drive reported a person matching the same description also claimed to be there to install internet. Entry was again denied.
A resident reported July 23 that a bicycle was stolen after being locked in the 1100 block of Depot Street.
Another bicycle, valued at $600, was reported stolen July 27 from the 3600 block of Glenview Road.
A resident in the 1500 block of Lehigh Avenue reported July 26 that a package valued at $90 was stolen from a porch.
Employees at a business in the 4300 block of Di Paolo Center reported July 24 that someone stole 14 sheets of plywood valued at $308.
A resident in the 4100 block of Dundee Road reported July 22 that a workout bag was stolen from a locker at a fitness facility. The bag contained identification cards, credit cards, clothing and a vehicle key.
A resident in the 2900 block of Jerrie Lane reported July 26 that the tires on two vehicles had been slashed.
Employees at a business in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported July 24 that a customer was yelling and swearing at patrons and staff.
The person was warned not to return and left the area.
Officers responded July 27 to another business in the 1700 block of Milwaukee Avenue after a customer reportedly swore at employees and caused a disturbance.
That person was also issued a trespass warning.
Police responded July 24 to the 2200 block of Grove Street for a report of people setting off fireworks. Officers were unable to locate those involved.
Two people were found July 24 in the 1000 block of Zenith Drive with a rolled cigarette and a vape they admitted contained cannabis, police said.
The items were sent for destruction, and both people received verbal warnings.
Daniel Pineda Palacios, 24, of Glenview, was arrested July 21 following a call for service at a residence.
He was charged with domestic battery and taken to the Cook County courthouse for a conditions hearing.
Jessica Shea, 38, was arrested July 21 in the 200 block of Waukegan Road following a well-being check.
Police said Shea was charged with aggravated battery and transported to Glenbrook Hospital.
The police report states that charges were pending and lists the same report number as a separate DUI arrest, an apparent clerical discrepancy in the release.
Mohamad Faraj, 59, of Skokie, was arrested July 27 at the Glenview Police Department in connection with an incident reported July 14 in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road.
Faraj was charged with battery and released pending a Sept. 14 court date in Skokie.
Bayartetsey Gansukh, 46, of Northbrook, was arrested July 20 in the 3700 block of East Sanders Road and charged with driving under the influence.
Gansukh was cited and released pending an Aug. 28 court appearance in Skokie.
Christopher Novaczyk, 43, of Grayslake, was arrested July 23 at the Mount Prospect Police Department in connection with a traffic incident reported the previous day.
Novaczyk was charged with reckless driving, speeding at least 35 mph over the limit, two counts of improper lane use, disobeying a traffic signal, failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle, driving in the wrong lane and improper passing on the left.
He was released pending an Aug. 14 court date in Skokie.
Abigail Krozel, 21, of Oak Park, was arrested July 27 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with filing a false motor vehicle accident report.
She was cited and released pending an Aug. 12 court date in Skokie.
Rita Ostrowski, 43, of Des Plaines, was arrested July 29 in the 100 block of Waukegan Road and charged with driving without a valid license.
She was released pending an Aug. 31 court date in Skokie.
Mario Arueta, 76, of Chicago, was arrested July 22 in the 2000 block of Willow Road and charged with driving with a suspended license.
He was released pending an Aug. 27 court date in Skokie.
Emma Lang, 34, of Wheeling, was arrested July 23 in the 2600 block of Sanders Road and charged with speeding between 26 and 34 mph over the limit.
She was cited and released pending an Aug. 11 court date in Skokie.
Trevonte Coble, 27, of Chicago, was arrested July 23 in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road on an active warrant.
Coble was taken to the Skokie courthouse and turned over to Cook County authorities.
