While many aspects of autism are still difficult to understand, what is known is that an autistic individuals' brain is different. As a result, using illicit substances can be more dangerous for teens and adolescents on the autism spectrum. Parents who suspect that their autistic child may be abusing drugs would be best served by seeking out professionals and drug counselors with specific experience in helping teens with autism.
At Courage to Connect, Dr. Clatch, Nicole, Roger, and Laura all experienced in working with teens with autism, and are able to provide counseling for both autism and drug use. If you feel your child would benefit from therapy, please feel free to call us at (847) 730-3042 to set up an appointment.
