Back Seat Carjacker Steals Vehicle At Gunpoint: Glenview Blotter
Incidents and arrests from the Glenview Police Department blotter for the week of Feb. 13 to Feb. 20.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARIES
- Between 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 12, someone stole a cell phone and wallet containing $200 in cash and credit cards from inside an unlocked van parked in the 2200 block of Robincrest Lane. Police said a stolen credit card was later used to make a purchase of more than $2,000 in Lyons.
- Someone stole power tools from inside a van parked at the Home Depot, 2850 Patriot Blvd., between 2:11 and 2:51 p.m. on Feb. 13. Police said a suspect was described as between 30 to 40 year old, weighing 190 to 210 pounds and black with short hair and no beard wearing a dark gray coat and dark jeans. He was last seen fleeing the scene toward Willow Road in a white car.
HOME BURGLARY
Burglars forced open the front door to a home in the 1500 block of Portage Run between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, stealing cash and jewelry worth about $5,900.

STOLEN CAR
- Someone stole a 2015 Range Rover from a parking lot in the 2600 block of Compass Road between 3 and 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 12.
- Someone stole a 2013 Acura from the 2000 block of Prairie Street between 5 p.m. on Feb. 13 and 7 a.m. on Feb. 14.
SHOPLIFTING
Around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, a group of 10 people exited a van at the BP Amoco, 2401 Sanders Road, entered the store and stole an unknown amount of merchandise from the store by hiding it in their closes.

ARMED ROBBERY
At 1:47 a.m. on Feb. 16, a resident in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported that they had been picked up by a friend before an unidentified person in the back seat pulled out a handgun and ordered them both to get out of the car on Interstate 294 near Dempster Street in Des Plaines. The reported loss was $55,000 and the investigation is ongoing. Police declined to release any further information about the incident.
RETAIL THEFT
Staff at the Kohl's, 2201 Willow Road, reported around 3 p.m. on Feb. 16 that an unidentified female shoplifter stole $95 worth of clothing by removing the tags and hiding them as she left.
CRIMINAL TRESPASSING
An employee at the Jewel-Osco, 2502 Waukegan Road, reported around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 that a man was refusing to leave and swearing. Police warned him he would be charged with trespassing if he returned.
GATE DAMAGE
Around 1 a.m. on Feb. 17, an officer noticed half of the gate was missing between Wilson Lane and Dauntless Circle. It was later found in the field near Buccaneer Drive and Dauntless Drive after apparently having been unscrewed from the lift mechanism.
APPLE SCAM
A resident in the 1500 block of Brandon Road reported receiving a call from a purported Apple representative between 6 and 7 p.m. on Feb. 16. The caller claimed the resident's computer had been hacked and requested they purchase $7,000 in prepaid Google Play gift cards. The resident purchased the cards and provided the gift card numbers.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone scratched the roof, hood, trunk and sides of a car parked at a business in the 1100 block of Waukegan Road between Jan. 17 and Feb. 17. A hood ornament was also stolen, and the total damage was estimated at $1,100.
- Between 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on Feb. 17, someone slashed three tires on a Honda, four tires on a Subaru, a Chevrolet and a Cooper Mini in the 700 block of Becker Road. The combined replacement costs was estimated at $1250.
'SECRETS' SCAM
A resident in the 1800 block of Wildberry Drive reported around 10 p.m. on Feb. 17 they had gotten an email threatening to release screenshots of a pornographic website to the resident's contact list unless the resident provides about $1,000 worth of Bitcoin.
IDENTITY THEFT
- Someone used the identity of an Ammer Ridge Court resident to open up an unauthorized Comcast account between Jan. 17 and Feb. 7. The identity thief used a Cicero address and racked up a $128 bill.
- On Jan. 6, a detective from the Glencoe Department of Public Safety discovered that a suspected identity thief used the identity of a Longvalley Road resident to buy nearly $10,500 worth of merchandise from businesses in Vernon Hills.

ARRESTS
Paul Goode, 28, of the 9800 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 5 a.m. on Feb. 11 by Chicago police in the 8300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, Chicago, on a Glenview warrant. Police said he was charged with forgery in connection with a March 30, 2018, incident at Abt Electronics, 1400 Milwaukee Ave., involving the attempted purchase of nearly $3,700 worth of items with multiple fraudulent credit card transactions. The recent arrest represents further charges for the same incident following an investigation, police said.
Robert Mieczkowski, 47, of the 1000 block of Bayside Drive, Palatine, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with leaving the scene of an accident in connection with an investigation into a traffic crash that occurred around 3:48 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2018, in the 3800 block of Willow Road. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Keith Horvath, 42, of the first block of North River Road, Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Target, 2241 Willow Road, and charged with retail theft after store staff saw him pick up about $35 worth of food items and return them for a refund using an old receipt for the purchase of the same items.
Choon Kim, 66, of the 2100 block of Thistle Road, Glenview, was issued a citation for theft after staff at the Von Mauer, 1960 Tower Drive, reported she had been stopped outside the store while attempting to steal $162 worth of items.
