Christmas 2018: Holiday Hours, Closures In Glenview

GLENVIEW, IL — The home stretch of the holiday season has arrived, with one more weekend to get ready to kick off the final week of 2018 with Christmas Eve on Monday. North Shore communities are making preparations to observe both the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Last-minute shoppers will be out picking up presents and ingredients for holiday meals, travelers will be on the roads and in the air to meet family and friends for the festive period and most students will be enjoying their winter break through the start of 2019.

First responders and employees at some businesses will be working on Christmas and New Year's, but many area employers will be closed to give workers a chance to gather to share the holiday with loved ones.

Here's a look at what's open and what's closed in Glenview for Christmas and New Year's 2018.

Post office: Closed

Federal offices: Closed

Banks: Closed

Gas stations: Open

Glenview Village Hall: Village offices close at noon on Dec. 24 and will remain closed Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. Village Hall will also be closed from noon on Dec. 31 and all day on Jan. 1 for New Year's Day.

Glenview Public Library: Closed all day on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. The library closes at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remains closed on Jan. 1. Special events are planned during winter break.

Glenview/Northbrook Public Schools: Closed for winter break through Jan. 4.

Refuse Collection: No recycling or trash collections will take place on Dec. 25, and pickups for the rest of the rest of the week of the Christmas holiday will be delayed by one day. During the week of the New Year's holiday, normal collections will take place Monday, and pickups the rest of the week will be delayed, with Friday collections taking place on Saturday.

Glenview Park District: The Grove is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The fitness center is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 24, closed Dec. 25 and open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 26. The Heritage Center, Wagner Farmhouse and all other buildings at Historic Wagner Farm are closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. The 18th Annual Winter Carnival kicks off Dec. 21 at the Glenview Ice Center and extends through Jan. 6.

Grocery stores: Most will be closed Christmas Day, some will be open and many will have adjusted hours. More info...
